MOVING TOWARDS RECOVERY!

CAMPAIGN SUPPORTERS 2022

Motion Changes Emotion?

Change is hard.

To recover from substance abuse and mental health issues we must work consistently, staying committed whilst enduring the ups and downs of life. It is only when we maintain this forward motion, that we find what it takes for us to stand back up again and regain control of our lives.

The purpose of the #motionchangesemotion campaign is to highlight the importance of the impact motion has on our day-to-day life. By adjusting our motion, we can change the direction and trajectory of our life. This motion brings us closer to the community, closer to support.

Whether that’s in your recovery from substance misuse, your mental well-being or improving your physical fitness, movement and motion create change, and change brings hope. When we attempt to change our relationship with substances, it is progress that is important, not pace, forward is forward.

Consistent motion gives us momentum allowing us to keep taking the next steps and not give up.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE CAMPAIGN?

Our the #motionchangesemotion campaign will focus on providing education, building awareness, and highlighting the importance of movement and exercise for making and maintaining positive change in your life.

The campaign will have 3 strands:

Empower
Providing access to information and education and services that will allow you to begin your journey of recovery. Learning about resilience and moving on from setbacks or relapses.

Thrive
Highlighting the important role of exercise and physical activity has on recovery and mental health. We plan to engage the whole community as well as local organisations in large-scale fitness challenges accessible to all.

Succeed
This final strand will highlight HOPE! Persistence is nothing more than staying in motion and recovery is and should always be a celebration. Change is possible. This will culminate in a one-day “Succeed” conference and Recovery walk to highlight the power and possibility of recovery within our community.

‘EMPOWER’  Free Community Health Fair

The purpose of the ‘Motion Changes Emotion’ campaign is to highlight the importance of the impact motion has on our day-to-day life. By adjusting our motion, we can change the direction and trajectory of our life.

This motion brings us closer to the community and closer to support. Whether that’s in your recovery from substance misuse, your mental well-being or improving your physical fitness, movement and motion create change, and change brings hope.

Our EMPOWER Health fair was designed to do just that, to empower individuals to take that vital step towards help and support for themselves or their loved ones. We provided access to a variety of local support services giving them an opportunity to share the vital services that they offer throughout our communities.

On the day we had 27 information stalls hosted by some of the excellent organisations within our city. We also provided:

– Free Health Screenings
– Blood Pressure/ Cholesterol / BMI / Height / Weight / Body Composition
– Mindfulness Demonstrations
– Fitness Demonstrations
– Mental Health Services
– Addiction Services
– Physical Health & Nutrition Info

Our 2 km dash with a splash of colour in the company of some awesome people was a real celebration of community, physical activity, and fun.

‘Recovery in Motion’ Conference 2022

We hosted the first ever ‘Recovery in Motion’ conference in September at The Millennium Forum Theatre & Conference Centre. A great event filled with hope, encouragement, and some fantastic speakers.

There was a perfect balance of academic experience, professionals in the field of substance use and people with lived experience. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories of hope.

‘Recovery Walk NI’ 2022

What a turnout for the Recovery Walk NI.  Wonderful seeing our community stand together in solidarity for people impacted by substance use and the fantastic organisations/projects providing essential support on their recovery journey.

Next year we go BIGGER.
